Canterbury's Orienteering Club PAPO
presents the 2012 Australia - New Zealand MTBO Challenge to be held in the historic Central Otago area of the South Island of New Zealand.

Flat plantation forest with intricate mtb track network north-west of Christchurch.

Warm up Event 2 - from 9am |
Flat plantation forest with intricate mtb track network on the northern outskirts of Christchurch.
Jan 10th |

Sprint Distance - from 1pm |
Plantation forest with old gold workings. Mixture of vehicle tracks, single track MTB tracks and walking tracks. Mostly flat and fast with minimal climb.

Long Distance - from 10.30am |
Open terrain with significant contour detail. Rocky mixture of 4WD, motorbike and dedicated single track MTB tracks.

Middle Distance - from 10.30am |
Mixed terrain with plantation forest, native scrubland and open areas. Scenic riverside/ lakeside location with complex MTB single track network. Rolling hills with some steep sections.
Dinner on the Friday night – 13th January, after the event at Wanaka. Easy drive from Wanaka to Cardrona. Cost = $35 per person for a really nice meal including dessert.
Accommodation is also available at the Cardrona Hotel (really nice historic Otago hotel close to the Saturday event at the Snow Farm) at $65 per person per night.

Relays - from 11am |
Open tussock land. Rock outcrops, buildings and snowboard park.
Mixture of cross-country ski trails and vehicle tracks. Ski area facilties for event centre. Snow is unlikely at this time of year!
The event will be run under the Draft NZ MTBO rules and the AUS/NZL MTBO Challenge Rules. An embargo is in place for Challenge competitors for the above areas. See details. Entries closed on Tuesday 20 December 2011. Entries may be accepted at the discretion of the organisers on payment of a late-entry fee of $10 per race. Refunds will only be given on cancellations received on or before closing date with deduction of a $10 admin fee. On-the-day entries will only be available on a limited number of courses (eg. not course 1). Further details on courses and start times will be posted to competitors and/or on this site closer to the date.
The best entry point to this event for overseas competitors is through Christchurch or Queenstown Airports. Another recommendation would be to arrive at Christchurch for the warm up event at Mclean's Island on Jan 7th and exit through Queenstown.
